Anıtkabir (Turkey)

Weather…

Anıtkabir is the grand mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder and first president of the Republic of Turkey. Perched on Rasattepe Hill in Ankara, it was constructed between 1944 and 1953 following a design by architects Emin Onat and Orhan Arda. The architectural style harmoniously blends modern minimalism with traditional Hittite, Seljuk, and Ottoman motifs. The complex consists of four major sections: the Peace Park, the Road of Lions, the Ceremonial Plaza, and the Hall of Honor, which houses Atatürk’s symbolic sarcophagus. Anıtkabir is more than just a burial site; it is a national landmark representing Turkish independence and the secular reforms initiated by Atatürk. Every year, millions of citizens and foreign dignitaries visit the site, particularly on national holidays such as Republic Day on October 29th.
