Palace of the Governor (Timor-Leste)

Weather…

The Palacio do Governo in Dili is the official seat of the Prime Minister of East Timor and a prominent example of Portuguese colonial architecture. Built in the 1950s, the building is characterized by its long white arcades and symmetrical facade, which faces directly toward the sea. It originally served as the seat of the Portuguese governor, testifying to the island's long colonial past that spanned over 400 years. During the turbulent years of the Indonesian occupation and the violence in 1999, the structure remained largely intact, becoming a symbol of the transition to independence. Today, it houses important government offices and is the stage for national ceremonies and state visits. The expansive promenade in front of the palace is a popular meeting point for locals and has views over the Dili Bay. The architecture blends neoclassical elements with the requirements of a tropical climate, reflected in its high ceilings and shaded corridors.
