Alishan National Forest Recreation Area

Alishan National Forest Recreation Area is one of Taiwan's most celebrated natural reserves, located in the mountainous region of Chiayi County. Spanning over 1,400 hectares, the area is globally renowned for its towering ancient red cypress trees, some of which are thousands of years old. The landscape is characterized by its high altitude, dense forests, and dramatic topography, offering visitors a profound connection with nature.

The reserve is perhaps most famous for its 'sea of clouds' phenomenon, where thick mist settles in the valleys, making mountain peaks appear like islands in a white ocean. This breathtaking sight is stunning during sunrise, drawing countless visitors who take the iconic Alishan Forest Railway to Chushan Station to witness the dawn. The railway itself is a historic marvel of engineering.
