Torre de la Móra

Torre de la Móra is a well-preserved historic watchtower situated in the coastal area of La Móra, within the municipality of Tarragona, Catalonia. Constructed primarily during the 16th century, this circular structure was part of a larger network of coastal watchtowers built along the Mediterranean shoreline. Their purpose was to protect the local population against frequent raids by Barbary pirates. The tower stands proudly on a promontory, offering sweeping views of the sea.

Architecturally, the tower was designed for endurance. Built with robust stone masonry, it features a characteristic truncated cone shape that narrows towards the top. It originally had a single elevated entrance, accessible only by a retractable ladder, enhancing its security against direct attacks. The interior usually consisted of a main floor for the guards and an upper terrace for lighting warning fires.

Today, Torre de la Móra is a prominent cultural landmark and a scenic attraction for visitors exploring the Costa Dorada. Surrounded by pine forests, it can be reached via coastal hiking paths. While access to the interior is often restricted to preserve the monument, its imposing exterior and breathtaking panoramic views make it a highly rewarding historical site to visit.
