Ai-Todorskii maiak
The Ai-Todor Lighthouse (Ai-Todorskii maiak), located in Gaspra on the cape of the same name, is one of the oldest and most historically significant navigational landmarks in the Black Sea region. It was built in 1835 by order of the commander of the Black Sea Fleet to make navigation safer along this rocky coastline. The tower rises majestically on a steep cliff and continues to provide orientation for sailors today.
The lighthouse grounds are not only an engineering monument but also a site of great historical importance. In the immediate vicinity are the ruins of the ancient Roman military camp Charax, highlighting the strategic importance of this cape throughout the centuries. The area around the lighthouse is characterized by a rugged yet fascinating coastal landscape.
