Sturza Manor (Romania)

Weather…

The Sturza Manor in Miclăușeni, also known as the Sturza Palace, was constructed between 1880 and 1904 in a refined Neo-Gothic style on the site of an older boyar residence. Commissioned by Gheorghe Sturza and his wife Maria, the manor once housed a legendary library of over 60,000 volumes, which was tragically lost during World War II and the subsequent communist regime. The exterior is decorated with intricate stone carvings, the Sturza family coat of arms, and pointed arch windows typical of late Gothic architecture. During the communist era, the estate was nationalized and served various institutional roles, including a home for children with disabilities, before being returned to the Moldavian Metropolis in 2001. Today, the manor is a prominent cultural landmark and museum, surrounded by a 30-hectare arboretum featuring rare tree species like Ginkgo Biloba and ancient oaks. It stands as a testament to the cultural ambition of the Moldavian nobility and is a key destination for historical tourism.
