The Ștei Local Council approved the increase of salary-related expenditures for the municipal utility company SOLCETA S.A. for the year 2026. This decision aims to adjust the budget of the local public service provider to current economic requirements.
Ștei is a town in Bihor County with a unique historical trajectory, having been transformed from a tiny village into a planned industrial city in the 1950s. Originally named Ștei, it was renamed Dr. Petru Groza during the communist era, reflecting its importance as a center for uranium mining in the nearby Băița region. The town was built according to Soviet urban planning principles, featuring wide boulevards and distinctive social-realist architecture that remains largely intact today. Located in the Crișul Negru valley at the foothills of the Apuseni Mountains, the town serves as a strategic gateway to some of Romania's most beautiful karst landscapes. Following the decline of the mining industry, Ștei has successfully diversified its economy into food processing and manufacturing. It has a fascinating case study of 20th-century urban development in Eastern Europe, combined with the natural charm of the Bihor region. The town’s compact layout and reliable infrastructure make it an important local hub for services and commerce.
