Prainha
Prainha is undoubtedly one of the most breathtaking and picturesque beaches in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. Located near the charming fishing village of Alvor and the bustling city of Portimão, this hidden gem is famous for its dramatic limestone rock formations, towering sea stacks, and a fascinating network of natural caves and arches. The contrast between the striking ochre and golden cliffs, the pristine fine golden sand, and the crystal-clear turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean creates an almost surreal, postcard-perfect landscape that captivates every single visitor.
Unlike the massive, expansive sandy shores nearby, Prainha is composed of several small, intimate coves separated by these majestic rock formations. During low tide, the beach transforms into a magical playground, allowing visitors to walk right through the spectacular arches and explore the hidden grottos that connect Prainha to the neighboring Praia dos Três Irmãos. The sense of discovery and the raw natural beauty make it a favorite spot for photographers, nature lovers, and anyone looking for a more secluded beach experience in the often-crowded Algarve coastline.
The atmosphere at Prainha is generally more tranquil and exclusive, partly due to its slightly hidden nature and more challenging access. Getting to the sand is part of the adventure; visitors can either walk across from adjacent beaches during low tide, descend a steep set of stairs carved into the cliffs, or use the famous elevator built directly through the rock. Once on the sand, you are surrounded by the protective embrace of the high cliffs, which shield the beach from strong winds while offering plenty of stunning visual appeal and a truly unforgettable Portuguese coastal experience.

Family-friendly & For kids
The beach is magical for older children who love exploring rocks and caves, but the tricky access makes it less ideal for strollers and very young toddlers.
