Praia da Arrifana

Praia da Arrifana

Blue FlagAccessible

Praia da Arrifana is one of the most stunning and iconic beaches on the Costa Vicentina, nestled within a magnificent bay surrounded by towering dark cliffs. Located near Aljezur, this beach is instantly recognizable by the striking Pedra da Agulha (Needle Rock), a solitary rocky pinnacle rising proudly from the Atlantic ocean just off the coast. The dramatic contrast between the golden sand, the deep blue water, and the dark schist cliffs creates an unforgettable natural landscape.

Because of its unique sheltered position, Praia da Arrifana is protected from the strong northerly winds that often sweep across the western Algarve coast. This makes it a highly favored destination not only for surfers who flock here for the consistent waves, but also for nature lovers and families seeking a spectacular yet comfortable beach experience. The laid-back, bohemian atmosphere is palpable, with surf culture deeply woven into the local vibe.

As the day comes to a close, the beach offers one of the most breathtaking sunsets in Portugal. Visitors often gather on the cliff tops or at the beachside cafes to watch the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky and the towering cliffs in vivid shades of orange and pink. Whether you are coming to catch the perfect wave, enjoy fresh seafood, or simply marvel at the raw beauty of the Atlantic coast, Praia da Arrifana is a truly mesmerizing destination.

Family-friendly & For kids

It is a great beach for families as the high cliffs provide shelter from the strong winds common on this coast. Families enjoy the spacious sandy area, though parents should supervise children closely due to the surf.

Kids love building sandcastles on the wide sandy stretch and exploring the small rock pools that form at low tide. While there are no dedicated playgrounds, the natural environment and surf schools offering kids' lessons provide plenty of entertainment.
