Baszta Jeńców

Baszta Jeńców, also known as the Prisoners' Tower, is a prominent historical landmark situated in Stargard, a city renowned for its exceptionally preserved medieval fortifications in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship of Poland. Constructed during the 15th century as part of the extensive defensive walls that encircled the city, this formidable structure reflects the wealth and strategic importance of Stargard during the Hanseatic period. The tower derives its name from its historical function; it was primarily used as a dungeon to hold captives and prisoners of war during various regional conflicts. Architecturally, the tower is a classic example of Gothic brick masonry, standing tall with a cylindrical base that transitions into a more complex upper section.
