Calaguas Islands
The Calaguas Islands are synonymous with pristine beauty off the beaten path. The crown jewel of the group is 'Mahabang Buhangin' on Tinaga Island, a kilometer-long stretch of the finest white sand that rivals Boracay's but without the crowds. The water is so clear that corals are visible directly from the boat. The islands offer an excellent setting for camping and digital detoxing. There are no large hotels or shopping malls here. Most visitors stay in tents or simple cottages, which enhances the adventurous feel. In the evenings, guests often gather around bonfires while the starry sky shines exceptionally bright due to the lack of light pollution. Activities are limited to snorkeling, hiking up hills for views over the bay, and simple relaxation. Local dining is based on the daily catch brought in by fishermen. Access requires an approximately two-hour boat ride from Vinzons or Daet, which can be adventurous during rough seas. The best time to visit is from February to July to avoid the typhoon season. Calaguas is the handy place for travelers wanting to experience the authentic Philippines and who are willing to trade luxury for an incomparable natural backdrop.
