Philippine Eagle Center (Philippines)

Weather…

The Philippine Eagle Center is an 8.4-hectare conservation breeding facility for the critically endangered Philippine Eagle. Located in Malagos, Baguio District, Davao City, the center is managed by the Philippine Eagle Foundation. Its primary mission is to save the majestic bird from extinction through a comprehensive program of conservation breeding, research, and public education. The center provides a natural forest habitat for a number of Philippine Eagles, some of which were born in captivity, while others are rescues that cannot be released back into the wild. Visitors can observe these magnificent raptors up close and learn about their biology, behavior, and the threats they face, primarily deforestation. The foundation's efforts have led to the first-ever successful captive breeding of the Philippine Eagle in 1992. The center also shelters other bird species and mammals, serving as a broader conservation park that highlights the unique biodiversity of the Philippines.

Best season
Visiting during the drier months from December to May is generally preferred, although the center's beautifully lush rainforest setting can be truly appreciated in any season provided you bring appropriate rain gear.

Best time of day
Early morning visits are very highly recommended, as the majestic Philippine eagles and other magnificent birds of prey are frequently much more vocal and visibly active during the cooler, quieter early hours of the day.
📜
Etiquette
All visitors must deliberately keep their voices low to avoid unnecessarily stressing the critically endangered birds, and the use of flash photography is typically strictly prohibited anywhere near the specialized breeding enclosures.
🎒
What to bring
Bringing a high-quality camera with a telephoto lens or robust binoculars will greatly enhance your detailed view of the eagles, while reliable mosquito repellent and comfortable walking shoes are also extremely practical.
🧭
Getting there
The center is peacefully situated in the Malagos area of Davao City, and can be efficiently reached by a combination of public utility vehicles, a local taxi, or a relatively straightforward private drive from the bustling city center.
🦌
What to expect
Take your time quietly observing the massive eagles; their movements can often be quite slow and deliberate, but ultimately witnessing their impressive wingspan or hearing their echoing calls is absolutely worth the patient wait.
