Tucked away at the base of the mountain, the city enjoys a refreshing highland breeze and exceptionally fertile soil. Every August, the city bursts into color during the Timpupo Fruit Festival, where visitors can indulge in an abundance of durian, mangosteen, rambutan, and other tropical delights. For adventurers, the surrounding area provides much more than just a trek to the summit. The Agco Hot Springs are a favorite destination, featuring therapeutic volcanic mud and warm spring pools. Nearby Lake Venado, one of the highest lakes in the country, features a mystical setting for high-altitude camping. Trekkers can also discover the hidden Marbel Falls, located deep within protected forests. The slopes of Mount Apo are a biodiversity hotspot, being one of the few remaining habitats of the critically endangered Philippine Eagle. Kidapawan's food scene highlights its sweet agricultural produce, while also offering hearty mountain-style cuisine. The city is easily reached by bus or car from Davao City in about 2.5 hours. The best climbing season is from March to May, while the August fruit festival is a must for cultural enthusiasts. Note that climbing Mount Apo requires a permit and a licensed local guide.
