Contadora Island (Panama)

Weather…

Isla Contadora is one of the most exclusive islands in the Pearl Archipelago within the Gulf of Panama, covering an area of about 1.4 square kilometers. Its name dates back to the Spanish colonial era when the island served as a 'counting house' (contadora) for pearls harvested in the region before they were shipped to Spain. In modern history, Contadora gained international fame as the place where the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, briefly lived in exile in 1979. Furthermore, in 1983, the island was the birthplace of the Contadora Group, a diplomatic initiative aimed at mediating armed conflicts in Central America. Geographically, the island is defined by its thirteen white sand beaches and shallow, turquoise waters that offer well-suited conditions for snorkeling. Despite its small size, it features a well-developed infrastructure, including a regional airport, and is a premier destination for humpback whale watching during the migration season.
