Jokin Cliffs (New Caledonia)

Weather…

The Jokin Cliffs are among the most impressive natural landmarks on Lifou Island, part of the Loyalty Islands archipelago in New Caledonia. Located at the northern tip of the island, these monumental limestone walls tower over 40 meters above the Pacific Ocean, creating a dramatic vertical boundary between land and sea. Geologically, the cliffs are formed from ancient fossilized coral reefs that were uplifted by tectonic forces over millennia. A steep path with steps leads down from Jokin village to the water's edge, where visitors can access some of the best snorkeling spots on the island. The crystal-clear turquoise waters reveal spirited coral gardens and a wealth of tropical fish, visible even from the top of the cliffs. The rock faces also provide essential nesting sites for various seabird species. From the viewpoints above, it is common to spot sea turtles and rays gliding through the calm waters below, making the cliffs a prime location for nature photography and peaceful contemplation of the vast Pacific horizon.
