Entrecasteaux Reefs (New Caledonia)

Weather…

The Entrecasteaux Reefs are among the most remote and pristine marine environments on Earth, forming a critical part of New Caledonia's UNESCO World Heritage listing. Located far off the northwestern tip of Grande Terre, these atolls and sand cays serve as a sanctuary of immense biological importance. The site is globally renowned as a premier nesting ground for the endangered green sea turtle, with thousands of individuals migrating here annually to lay their eggs on the undisturbed beaches. Furthermore, the reefs support massive colonies of seabirds, including red-footed boobies and frigatebirds, which thrive in this isolated habitat. Beneath the waves, the coral structures are remarkably healthy, hosting a lively array of sharks, rays, and diverse fish species. Because of their extreme isolation, the reefs remain largely untouched by human activity, and access is strictly regulated to preserve this fragile ecological treasure as a wild sanctuary for future generations.
