Eschen Forest
The forest near Eschen stretches across the gentle hills of the Eschnerberg and represents one of the most important green lungs in the Liechtenstein Unterland. This forested area is crisscrossed by a dense network of hiking and educational trails that introduce visitors to the local flora and the importance of forest protection. Historically, the Eschnerberg is of great significance as some of the country's oldest settlement traces are found here, including the archaeological sites of Borscht and Lutzengüetle. The mixed forests consist mainly of beech, fir, and spruce, providing a habitat for numerous native animal species such as deer, foxes, and various species of woodpeckers. During the autumn months, the forest transforms into a colorful sea of yellow and red tones, making it a popular destination for nature photographers. Due to its location above the municipalities of Eschen and Mauren, the forest repeatedly gives views of the Riet plain and the surrounding mountains of Vorarlberg and St. Gallen.
