Old Train Station (Lesotho)

Weather…

The Old Train Station in Maseru is a unique historical landmark, standing as the only railway structure in the entire Kingdom of Lesotho. Opened in 1905 during the British colonial period, it was built to connect the capital of what was then Basutoland to the South African rail network via a short 1.6-kilometer spur line leading towards Bloemfontein. The station is located near the Maseru Bridge border post, spanning the Mohokare River. Because of Lesotho's mountainous and rugged terrain, an internal rail system was never developed, leaving this station as the nation's sole rail link to the outside world. While passenger services are no longer the primary focus, the building remains a significant relic of early 20th-century engineering and continues to play a role in regional freight logistics and customs.
