Aberdares National Park

Aberdares National Park

The Aberdare National Park, situated in the central highlands of Kenya, is a majestic and highly diverse protected area characterized by steep, densely forested ravines, open moorlands, and towering mountain peaks. Established to protect the natural wonders of the Aberdare Mountain Range, this park offers a striking visual contrast to the sweeping, flat savannas typically associated with classic Kenyan safaris. The rugged landscape is punctuated by clear mountain streams and magnificent waterfalls, most notably the spectacular Karuru Falls, which plunge deep into lush, verdant valleys below. This unique, cooler ecosystem provides a vital sanctuary for an abundance of wildlife, including large herds of elephants, Cape buffalo, the elusive and rare bongo antelope, leopards, and a significant, highly protected population of the endangered black rhino. Historically, the park holds great international significance; it is world-famous as the location of the historic Treetops Hotel, where Princess Elizabeth famously learned of her accession to the British throne. Visitors can enjoy thrilling game drives through challenging terrain, invigorating hikes, and even trout fishing in the crystal-clear rivers. The dense alpine vegetation and the cool, often misty climate make Aberdare National Park a truly unforgettable destination for true nature lovers.
