Taldykorgan, located in southeastern Kazakhstan at the foot of the Dzungarian Alatau, is the administrative center of the Jetisu Region. The city was founded in the second half of the 19th century as the village of Gavrilovka and was granted city status and its current name in 1944. Taldykorgan lies on the banks of the Karatal River and is surrounded by an impressive mountain backdrop. Following the 2022 administrative reform, the city was once again designated as the center of the restored Jetisu Region. The economy is driven by food processing and light mechanical engineering, with the region also being recognized for its significant agricultural output. Culturally, the city has several museums, a theater, and expansive green spaces such as the Jansugurov Cultural Park.
