Adachi Museum of Art and Garden (Japan)

Weather…

The Adachi Museum of Art in Yasugi, Shimane Prefecture, is world-renowned for its extraordinary fusion of modern Japanese painting and award-winning garden design. Founded in 1970 by businessman Adachi Zenko, the museum operates under the philosophy that a Japanese garden is 'a living painting.' Spanning approximately 165,000 square meters, the grounds feature six distinct gardens, including the Dry Landscape Garden (Karesansui), the Moss Garden, and the White Gravel and Pine Garden. Since 2003, the 'Journal of Japanese Gardening' has consistently ranked Adachi's grounds as the finest in Japan. The museum's interior houses a vast collection of works by Yokoyama Taikan, a pioneer of the Nihonga style, as well as ceramics and woodcarvings. A signature architectural feature is the 'living frame,' where windows are strategically placed to frame views of the garden as if they were framed artworks. To maintain their pristine condition, the gardens are observed only from within the museum, ensuring every stone and branch remains perfectly positioned.
