The Seaside Literary Memorial Hall (Umibe no Bungaku Kinenkan) is located in the scenic coastal city of Gamagori in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. During the first half of the 20th century, Gamagori was an incredibly popular seaside resort that attracted numerous prominent Japanese literary figures. Famous writers such as Yasunari Kawabata, Naoya Shiga, Kikuchi Kan, and Junichiro Tanizaki frequently visited the region to enjoy the sea breeze, the hot springs, and to draw inspiration for their works from the beautiful coastal scenery, especially the view of Takeshima Island.

The museum itself is housed in an elegant wooden building that architecturally resembles a traditional Japanese inn (ryokan) from the Taisho and early Showa periods. This design was deliberately chosen because many of the authors resided and wrote in exactly this type of coastal guesthouse. Inside, visitors can explore a fascinating collection of original manuscripts, the writers' personal belongings, old photographs, and first-edition books, which collectively paint a vivid picture of the region's literary golden age.

A special highlight of the memorial hall is its authentic, tranquil atmosphere, which is complemented by a small traditional-style cafe. Guests can relax here with a cup of matcha green tea while enjoying the magnificent view of Mikawa Bay and the sacred Takeshima Island—just as the great masters of Japanese literature once did. A visit to the hall offers not only a deep dive into Japanese literary history but also a moment of peaceful contemplation by the sea.
