Hong Kong Park is an eight-hectare sanctuary of greenery set amidst the dense skyscraper landscape of the Central district. Opened in 1991 on the site of the former British Victoria Barracks, the park is a prime example of successful urban design that integrates nature with modern architecture. A major highlight is the Edward Youde Aviary, one of the world's largest walk-through aviaries, built over an artificial valley that mimics a tropical rainforest canopy. Getting there
This green oasis is located right in the central business district and is excellently connected to the MTR network. Visitors usually reach the area via short walks from surrounding subway stations or through the escalator system.
Best season
The facility features a welcome change from the urban bustle all year round. The greenhouses and air-conditioned areas make the park a pleasant destination even on hot or rainy summer days.

The terrain is terraced and connected by wide, paved paths. Numerous ramps and elevators ensure that most attractions, such as the bird aviary, are largely barrier-free.
What to bring
No special equipment is required for this urban excursion. Comfortable shoes for exploring the extensive grounds and a camera for the interesting architecture-nature contrasts are fully sufficient.
Parking
There are no dedicated parking spaces directly at the park, and parking in Central is generally expensive and complicated. Arriving by subway, buses, or the tram is undoubtedly the most practical solution.
Safety
The park is considered very safe and is equipped with highly visible security personnel and surveillance cameras. Nevertheless, follow the rules and do not feed the animals in the aviary or the ponds.
Time needed
A typical stroll through the Botanical Center and the bird aviary takes about one to two hours. However, many visitors enjoy spending more time here to relax from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding skyscrapers.
