Seelze is an emerging city located in direct proximity to the state capital, Hannover. Its growth was significantly driven by the construction of strategic transport routes. Most notably, the Seelze marshalling yard is one of Europe's most efficient freight stations, making the city a logistical backbone for Northern Germany. Another striking feature is the waterway junction where the Mittelland Canal crosses the Leine River via a trough bridge. Historically, Seelze is famous for the legend of the 'Cavalry General' Michael von Obentraut, who fell here during the Thirty Years' War. Economically, the facility of the chemical giant Honeywell serves as a central pillar of the local industry. Despite its industrial roots, Seelze gives diverse recreational activities through the Leine wetlands and the surrounding landscapes of the Calenberger Land. Over recent decades, the city has evolved from a small village into a modern residential hub with excellent links to Hannover's transit system, making it particularly popular among commuters.
