Duhnen is one of the most popular districts of Cuxhaven and a prominent North Sea spa resort in Lower Saxony. Situated directly on the UNESCO Wadden Sea World Heritage site, it has a unique natural landscape shaped by the rhythmic tides. Duhnen perfectly combines modern wellness facilities with traditional maritime charm. The long coastal promenade is lined with cafes, restaurants, and boutiques, offering remarkable views of the North Sea and the massive container ships heading toward the port of Hamburg. The healthy sea air makes it a prime destination for Thalasso therapy and relaxation. A key feature of the local beach is the FKK-Strand Duhnen, a dedicated area for naturists set amidst the vast sandy dunes. At low tide, the receding waters reveal the mudflats, allowing for guided walks to the island of Neuwerk or trips via the traditional horse-drawn 'Wattwagen' carriages. The town is also famous for the Duhner Wattrennen, a unique horse race held on the seabed at low tide. Local gastronomy is centered on North Sea delicacies like shrimp and fresh flatfish. Easily accessible by train to Cuxhaven followed by a short bus ride, Duhnen is a convenient and highly rewarding coastal escape.
