Heidenheim an der Brenz is located in eastern Baden-Württemberg at the edge of the Swabian Alb. The city's origins can be traced back to the Roman period when it was known as the fort Aquileia. The cityscape is dominated by Hellenstein Castle, which sits on a rock high above the city center and serves as a venue for museums and the famous Opera Festival. Heidenheim is a powerhouse of German industry, hosting the headquarters of the Voith Group and the healthcare company Hartmann. In recent years, the city has gained additional fame due to the success of its football club, 1. FC Heidenheim, in the Bundesliga. The Brenz river flows through the valley, and the surrounding rugged landscape of the Ostalb provides a unique natural environment for hiking and exploration, blending industrial prowess with scenic beauty.
