Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine is located directly north of Paris, separated only by the Peripherique ring road. The city is legendary for hosting 'Les Puces de Saint-Ouen,' the world's largest and oldest flea market, covering seven hectares and divided into specialized markets ranging from high-end 18th-century furniture to vintage streetwear. Historically, the city was a powerhouse of French heavy industry, particularly in energy and automotive manufacturing. In recent years, Saint-Ouen has undergone one of the most significant urban regenerations in the Île-de-France region. The 'Docks' district, a former industrial wasteland along the Seine, has been reimagined as a sustainable 'eco-quarter' featuring the massive Grand Parc des Docks. The city is also a bastion of football culture, home to Red Star FC, a club founded by Jules Rimet. As part of the Grand Paris express development and the 2024 Olympic preparations, Saint-Ouen saw massive investment in infrastructure and transport, notably the extension of Metro Line 14, making it a prime location for major corporate headquarters and young professionals.
