Saleccia beach

Saleccia beach

Plage de Saleccia is widely considered one of the most beautiful and pristine beaches in Corsica, if not all of France. Located in the heart of the rugged Agriates Desert (Désert des Agriates), this long stretch of dazzling white sand is fringed by a dense, fragrant forest of Aleppo pines. The striking contrast between the vivid turquoise water, the white dunes, and the lush green background creates a breathtaking, postcard-perfect landscape that captivates every visitor from the moment they arrive.

What truly sets Saleccia apart is its entirely wild and unspoiled character. Highly protected by the Coastal Conservancy (Conservatoire du Littoral), the beach remains largely undeveloped, strictly free from the large concrete hotels and bustling promenades that characterize many Mediterranean resorts. Historically, this secluded bay was even used as a secret landing spot for submarines supplying the resistance during World War II, and later served as the filming location for the famous 1962 movie "The Longest Day". Today, it offers a tranquil escape for true nature lovers.

Reaching this hidden gem is very much part of the experience. Accessible only by boat from the nearby town of Saint-Florent, via a bumpy 4x4 track through the dense maquis, or along a scenic coastal hiking trail, the demanding journey naturally filters out the massive crowds. For those who make the considerable effort, Saleccia rewards them with crystal-clear waters, a serene atmosphere, and an unforgettable sense of isolation and immense natural beauty.

Family-friendly & For kids

The soft sand is great for older children who enjoy nature. However, the difficult access and lack of sanitary facilities make it challenging for families with infants.

Kids will love the soft sand perfect for building sandcastles. There are no playgrounds or animations, though; the pristine nature is the only playground.

Tips

FAQ

Can I drive my rental car to Saleccia?
No, the 12km dirt track from Casta strictly requires a high-clearance 4x4. Rental companies outright forbid driving standard cars there.
Are there any restaurants right on the beach?
There are no restaurants on the sand. There is only a very basic snack bar hidden in the pine forest during the peak summer months.
How long does the boat trip from Saint-Florent take?
The boat shuttle to neighboring Lotu beach takes 20-30 minutes, followed by a walk. Direct fast Zodiac drop-offs at Saleccia take around 30 minutes.
Is the beach suitable for snorkeling?
The water is incredibly clear, but since the seabed is fine sand, there is less marine life and fewer rocks to observe compared to rocky coves.
