Puerto de La Libertad is one of El Salvador's most significant ports and tourist destinations on the Pacific coast. The city was officially founded in 1824 and served for decades as the primary export port for coffee and indigo, significantly shaping the economic growth of the region. Today, it is world-renowned for its premier surfing spots, particularly Punta Roca, which attracts international competitions and surfers from across the globe. The modern waterfront promenade, known as the Malecón Turístico, gives numerous seafood restaurants and markets where fresh seafood is sold daily directly from the pier.
