Command Museum (Cuba)

Weather…

The Museo de la Comandancia de la Plata is located deep within the Sierra Maestra mountain range and served as the strategic headquarters of the rebel army under Fidel Castro in 1958. The site was chosen for its inaccessibility and dense forest cover, which protected it from aerial attacks by Batista's forces. The museum consists of 16 simple wooden buildings harmoniously integrated into the steep landscape, including Fidel Castro's house, a field hospital, and the Radio Rebelde broadcasting station. The buildings are constructed on stilts to level the uneven ground and prevent moisture buildup. Visitors must undertake a challenging hike at an altitude of over 1,000 meters to reach this historic site. It was declared a National Monument in 1978, preserving the original atmosphere of the guerrilla war. The museum provides an authentic look into the logistical organization and daily lives of the revolutionaries during the decisive phase of the armed struggle.
