Weather…

Castillo de la Real Fuerza is a bastioned fortress in Havana and is considered the oldest stone fortress in the Americas. Built between 1558 and 1577, it was constructed on the site of an earlier fortification that had been destroyed during a pirate raid. The fort is characterized by its star-shaped plan and massive walls designed to protect the harbor from attacks. A distinctive landmark is the bronze statue 'La Giraldilla' atop the watchtower, which serves as the symbol of Havana and depicts the wife of a governor waiting for her husband's return. Despite its strategic location, the fort was militarily flawed due to its distance from the harbor entrance, leading to the later construction of Castillo del Morro. Today, the building houses a maritime museum featuring ship models and treasures from sunken galleons. Since 1982, the fortress has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Old Havana.
