The name is derived from the characteristic lagoons separated from the sea by sandbars. Plage de Barachois is a magnificent spot for long walks, while Plage de Coin-du-Banc is famous for its fine sand and clear water. Plage de Bridgeville gives another beautiful option for swimmers and nature lovers. The village is a paradise for birdwatchers, as the estuary and lagoons serve as a resting place for numerous species.
