Stratford
Stratford's identity is globally recognized and closely tied to the Stratford Festival, one of the most prominent classical theatre organizations in North America. Running annually from April to October, the festival produces a diverse repertoire of works by William Shakespeare and contemporary playwrights across multiple state-of-the-art venues. The city is beautifully situated on the Avon River, characterized by extensive, meticulously maintained parklands and a resident population of white swans originally introduced in 1918. The downtown core retains much of its original 19th-century Victorian commercial architecture, now housing numerous independent restaurants, art galleries, and boutique shops. Stratford also maintains a strong culinary focus, heavily supported by the local Stratford Chefs School, which elevates the regional dining scene. Visitors often explore the Shakespearean Gardens or walk the 2.5-kilometer scenic path encompassing Lake Victoria.
