Baddeck
Baddeck serves as the primary gateway to the 298-kilometer Cabot Trail, one of Canada's most famous scenic drives. Situated on the northern shore of the expansive Bras d'Or Lake, it is heavily focused on maritime activities. The Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site is the largest attraction, showcasing the inventor's work with early aircraft, hydrofoils, and kites. Bell's historic summer estate, Beinn Bhreagh, can be seen from the village shoreline. The local harbor is a major hub for recreational sailing and boat tours exploring the inland sea's coves. Seafood is central to the local diet, with restaurants serving fresh lobster, mussels, and Atlantic salmon. The village center consists of a single main street lined with craft shops, inns, and local cafes that operate primarily between May and October. Most travelers arrive via the Trans-Canada Highway (Route 105), driving about 4 hours from Halifax. Late summer and early autumn are the peak times to visit, especially during the October Celtic Colours International Festival. Winter services are highly restricted as many local businesses close for the season.
