The Hopewell Rocks stand as the most recognizable natural attraction in New Brunswick. Over thousands of years, the world's highest tides, reaching up to 14 meters in the Bay of Fundy, have eroded the coastline into distinctive free-standing pillars known as flowerpot rocks. The nearby village of Alma serves as the main service hub and the eastern entrance to Fundy National Park, providing restaurants, lodging, and fresh seafood. The visitor experience changes completely every six hours. During low tide, guests can walk directly on the muddy ocean floor, wandering through the towering rock formations for over a kilometer. When high tide returns, the base of the rocks is fully submerged, and the same area is explored via guided sea kayak tours paddling among the treetopped islands. Alma provides access to dense coastal forests, waterfalls, and rugged hiking trails within the national park. This area is about a 40-minute drive south from Moncton. Due to the extreme mud and tidal conditions, visitors must closely consult local tide charts before planning their day. The park facilities and most local businesses operate strictly from mid-May through mid-October, heavily peaking in July and August.
