Caye Chapel is located just a mile and a half south of the popular island of Caye Caulker and has a storied history as an exclusive private island retreat. In the past, the narrow, 280-acre island was primarily known for its 18-hole championship golf course, which catered to wealthy tourists and prominent guests. Today, Caye Chapel is in the midst of a massive transformation, being developed by Four Seasons into an ultra-luxury resort destination. The future master plan includes overwater bungalows, private estate residences, and a world-class marina. Although the ongoing construction currently restricts general access, the island's natural assets remain unquestionable. The waters surrounding Caye Chapel are calm, crystal clear, and rich in marine life, as the island sits safely protected behind the barrier reef. Tarpon and bonefish actively swim in the shallow flats, making the surrounding waters highly attractive for fly fishermen. The long sandy beaches along the eastern edge have been carefully maintained, providing an idyllic tropical backdrop far removed from the hustle of heavier-trafficked neighboring islands. In the future, reaching Caye Chapel is expected to be arranged via private water taxis from Belize City or Caye Caulker, as well as by helicopter or small planes landing on the island's private airstrip. The best time to travel to this region is between December and May, when the climate is at its most reliable. Until its official grand reopening, the island is primarily of interest to sailors who drop anchor offshore to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the area.
