Tucked away beneath towering limestone cliffs on the southeast coast of Barbados, the beach has a remarkable contrast between the rugged terrain and the brilliant azure waters of the Atlantic. An offshore reef protects the bay from the strongest swells, creating a natural playground excellent for swimming and bodyboarding. The area's name is derived from a large loading crane that once sat atop the cliffs, used for lowering and lifting cargo from visiting ships in the 19th century. Perched on the cliffs above is the historic Crane Resort, the island's oldest hotel, which has welcomed guests since 1887. Whether accessed via the cliff-side stairs or the modern glass elevator, the beach remains a quintessential Barbadian landmark where natural drama meets serene luxury.
