In Amenas Gas Plant (Algeria)

Weather…

The In Amenas gas plant is a major hydrocarbon facility located at Tiguentourine, near the town of In Amenas in the Illizi Province of southeastern Algeria. Situated deep in the Sahara Desert, the plant is a joint venture between the Algerian national oil company Sonatrach, BP and Equinor. It processes natural gas and gas liquids from several surrounding fields, making it one of the most productive gas installations in the country. The facility consists of three processing trains that produce dry gas for the national grid and export pipelines, as well as condensate and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Since its commissioning in 2006, the plant has played a vital role in Algeria's energy strategy and its commitments to international gas markets. The site is a self-contained industrial complex with its own power generation, water treatment, and housing facilities for its workforce. Security at the site is extremely high given its strategic importance to the national economy and its remote location. Ongoing technical upgrades continue to optimize production levels and minimize the environmental impact of gas processing operations in the desert environment.
