Sunset Beach Park

Sunset Beach is the southernmost of North Carolina's Brunswick Islands and is regarded as one of the quietest spots in the region. The town is famous for Sunset Beach, which, due to the island's unique orientation, allows visitors to witness both sunrise and sunset over the water. A major highlight is the adjacent Bird Island Reserve, a pristine coastal sanctuary reachable on foot via the shore. This is also home to the famous 'Kindred Spirit' mailbox, where visitors can leave their thoughts and messages. The beaches here are exceptionally wide and natural, free from commercial development on the waterfront. The Bald Beach area has additional serenity for nature lovers. The surrounding area features numerous world-class golf courses and birdwatching opportunities. Since there is very little commercial activity on the island itself, a meditative silence prevails, making it handy for unwinding. Access to the mainland is via a modern bridge that replaced the old pontoon bridge, connecting to Highway 179.
