The Lake of the Ozarks is one of the premier vacation destinations in the American Midwest, boasting over 1,100 miles of shoreline, more than the entire coast of California. Created by the Bagnell Dam, this massive reservoir is a boating mecca, home to everything from high-performance speedboats to leisurely houseboats. The lake's 'Party Cove' is nationally famous for its animated summer scene, while the quieter coves offer some of the best bass fishing in the region. On shore, the area is a golfer's dream with over a dozen championship courses designed by legends like Arnold Palmer and Tom Weiskopf. Ha Ha Tonka State Park at the lake's southern end is, featuring the dramatic ruins of an early 20th-century stone castle and turquoise karst springs. The Bagnell Dam Strip serves as the hub for family entertainment, lined with shops, arcades, and waterfront dining. The peak season runs from late May through early September when the lake is at its busiest. Most visitors arrive by car from St. Louis or Kansas City, both about a three-hour drive away. Offering everything from high-end resorts with full-service spas to rustic waterfront cabins, the Lake of the Ozarks provides a diverse range of experiences for families, couples, and boaters alike.
