The island is conveniently accessible by road via a short causeway from the mainland, with Ellsworth serving as the major gateway city before crossing over onto the island network.
Best season
Late spring through brilliant autumn foliage season is the prime time to visit, though mid-summer can be quite crowded; early fall features crisp air and spectacular colors.
Terrain & paths
The landscape blends rugged granite coastlines, serene glacially carved lakes, and rounded mountain peaks, offering well-maintained trails ranging from easy carriage roads to steep iron-rung climbs.
What to bring
