Kalaoa is located on the slopes of the Hualalai volcano on the west coast of the Big Island, offering impressive views of the Pacific. The region is characterized by ancient lava fields that create a dramatic contrast with the deep blue sea. Its proximity to Kona Airport makes it a convenient base for exploring the sunny Kona side of the island. Kalaoa's coast is home to some of Hawaii's best beaches. Kua Bay Beach (Maniniʻowali Beach) is famous for its fine white sand and turquoise water. The secluded Makalawena Beach is considered a gem of the island, accessible only by hiking or a 4WD vehicle. Mahaiula Beach provides shade under palms, while Makolea Beach is known for its black lava sand. Ooma Beach and Wawaloli Beach are well-suited for tide pool exploration, and Kaelehuluhulu Beach provides calm waters. In addition to the beaches, Kalaoa features access to world-class diving and snorkeling spots where sea turtles and dolphins are often spotted. The region is also famous for Kona coffee, grown on the fertile hillsides. In the evening, sunsets over the ocean provide an unforgettable spectacle. Kalaoa combines Hawaiian natural beauty with the raw energy of a volcanic island.
