Anaheim, located in Orange County, California, is globally known as the home of the Disneyland Resort. The city was founded in 1857 by 50 German families who came from San Francisco and originally engaged in viticulture. The name 'Anaheim' combines 'Ana' from the nearby Santa Ana River with 'heim,' the German word for home. After the wine industry collapsed in the 1880s due to a disease, the city's economy shifted to citrus fruits, walnuts, and agriculture. The opening of Disneyland in 1955 transformed Anaheim from a rural community into an international tourist destination, triggering rapid urban growth and economic diversification. Today, tourism is the dominant industry. Besides Disneyland, the city hosts the Anaheim Convention Center, the largest on the West Coast, and professional sports teams like the Los Angeles Angels (MLB) and the Anaheim Ducks (NHL). Anaheim's population is the tenth-largest in California and reflects a diverse ethnic composition.
