Sivas is located in the central highlands of Anatolia and is a city of immense historical significance for Turkey. During the Seljuk period, it served as a vital trade hub on the Silk Road, which is evident in the magnificent architecture of the Gök Medrese and the Çifte Minareli Medrese. These 13th-century structures showcase exquisite stonemasonry and stand as symbols of medieval Islamic education. In 1919, the city hosted the Sivas Congress, a pivotal moment in the Turkish War of Independence led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The climate is continental, featuring cold winters and warm summers, which shapes the regional agricultural landscape. Sivas is also globally famous for the Kangal shepherd dog and its medicinal thermal springs. The city preserves an authentic Anatolian culture and remains an important center for traditional crafts such as carpet weaving and knife making.
