Sinop
Sinop, situated at the narrowest point of the Black Sea coast, is a town full of history and charm. Its natural harbor was one of the most important in the Black Sea during antiquity. The striking Sinop Prison, now a museum, tells somber stories from the Ottoman era, while the ancient city walls and the castle testify to the city's strategic importance. A monument to the philosopher Diogenes commemorates the town's most famous son. The nature around Sinop is spectacular. Hamsilos Bay, often referred to as Turkey's only fjord (though geologically a cove), has crystal-clear water and dense pine forests. Cape İnceburun marks the northernmost point of the Turkish mainland, where a lonely lighthouse guides ships. The region is handy for nature lovers seeking peace and untouched landscapes. Culinary-wise, Sinop is famous for its 'Mantı' (dumplings), which are often served here with walnuts. Fresh fish is, of course, a staple due to the location. Cozy cafés at the harbor invite you to enjoy the sunset over a glass of Turkish tea while watching the fishermen at work. The city is best visited in summer and early autumn when the climate is mild. Sinop has a small airport and good bus connections. It is a place that promises a slower pace of life and delights travelers with its authentic atmosphere and the combination of history and coastal scenery.
