Holy Trinity Cathedral
Holy Trinity Cathedral in Port of Spain is the mother church of the Anglican Diocese of Trinidad and Tobago and an outstanding example of Neo-Gothic architecture in the Caribbean. Completed in 1823, the cathedral is renowned for its soaring pointed arches, intricate stained-glass windows, and a magnificent interior crafted from fine hardwoods. Of particular note is the monumental memorial to Sir Ralph Woodford, the former Governor who initiated the cathedral's construction. Situated on the edge of Woodford Square, it serves as a serene sanctuary in the heart of the busy capital. The structure has endured numerous natural disasters, including earthquakes and storms, and has undergone several restorations to preserve its historical fabric. As both a spiritual center and an architectural jewel, it attracts worshippers and history enthusiasts alike. The cathedral stands as a testament to the enduring influence of British culture and religion on Trinidad's historical development.
