The Asa Wright Nature Centre is a world-renowned nature resort and scientific research station located in the lush Arima Valley of Trinidad's Northern Range. Established in 1967 on the site of the former Spring Hill cocoa plantation, it was one of the first eco-tourism centers established in the Caribbean. The center spans 1,500 acres of tropical rainforest and is famous for its exceptional density of avian species. It is particularly noted for hosting a colony of rare Oilbirds (Guacharos) in a cave on the property. The center's famous observation veranda provides visitors with an unparalleled view of hummingbirds, honeycreepers, and toucans visiting the nearby feeders. Beyond birdwatching, the centre is dedicated to the conservation of endangered habitats and environmental education. Numerous trails wind through the forest leading to waterfalls and pristine mountain streams. The historic plantation house has been preserved to maintain its original charm while serving as a hub for visitors. It remains a premier destination for naturalists and scientists studying neotropical biodiversity.
