What is this place?
Bangkok Port (Khlong Toei) on the Chao Phraya River was historically Thailand's most important international port before Laem Chabang was built. It played a central role in the country's trade and remains a significant transshipment point.
Visiting
The port itself is a closed industrial area and not open to the public. However, the activity of cargo ships and cranes can be observed from the surrounding public waterfront areas and river cruises.
Where to view it
An excellent viewpoint is the Khlong Toei MRT station, from which one gets a good view of the port area. The observation platform of the nearby Wat Klong Toei temple also has an elevated perspective on the harbor.

At the neighboring Khlong Toei Market, one of Bangkok's largest fresh markets, imported and local foods are sold. Here you find seafood, fruits and vegetables that often come directly from the port.
