National Kandawgyi Botanical Gardens (Myanmar (Burma))

Weather…

The National Kandawgyi Botanical Gardens, located in Pyin Oo Lwin at an elevation of 1,000 meters, were established in 1915 by the British botanist Alex Rodger. Originally known as the Maymyo Botanical Garden, the site was modeled after the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in England and covers an area of approximately 177 hectares. The gardens feature a vast collection of over 480 species of flowers, shrubs, and trees, including a renowned orchid house with more than 300 species of indigenous orchids. In 2000, the park underwent extensive renovations and was officially renamed to its current title to reflect its national significance. Visitors can explore various themed sections such as the rose garden, the bamboo forest, and a dedicated enclosure for the rare takin, a goat-antelope native to the Himalayas. The landmark Nan Myint Tower provides a panoramic view of the surrounding Shan Hills and the garden layout, which remains a vital center for botanical research and conservation in Myanmar.
