Puebla Cathedral (Mexico)

Weather…

The Puebla Cathedral, or the Basilica Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, is a titan of colonial architecture located in the city's historic Zócalo. Construction began in 1575 under the designs of Francisco Becerra and continued for nearly 300 years, with the church being consecrated in 1649 by Bishop Juan de Palafox y Mendoza. Its most striking feature is its pair of bell towers, which stand 73 meters high, making them the tallest in Mexico. Local folklore claims that angels descended from heaven to hoist the massive bells into place, giving rise to the city’s nickname, "Puebla of the Angels." The interior is a museum of sacred art, featuring the striking Altar of the Kings and a main altar designed by the renowned neoclassical architect Manuel Tolsá. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, the cathedral stands as a testament to the immense wealth and cultural sophistication of colonial-era New Spain.
